House Tour: Aura Ave. Residential Project

Welcome friends! I wanted to take you behind the scenes of my latest residential project. The transformation of this project is remarkable! I hope you enjoy the tour.

ABOUT THE PROJECT: This 3500 square foot Spanish style home was built in 1972 in Northridge, California. My Clients, a young couple with two small children, had dreams of building their forever home with all the modern amenities and luxuries that would allow them to entertain their huge extended family and friends.

They wanted a family-friendly home that their children would grow into, but social events were on the list of their top priorities. With this in mind, I dedicated several areas in the home where they could entertain guests in luxury as well as areas where children can play comfortably.

We demolished the original house down to its foundation and started with a clean slate, adding another 700 square feet of living space. One of the biggest design problems with the original house was its low ceilings with crisscrossing dark beams and general lack of natural light. My biggest priority was bringing in the warm California sunshine indoors. We opened up the family living room with floor to ceiling glass sliding doors that open completely to the expansive backyard overlooking the pool. A ten-foot skylight is also centered on the Kitchen island, allowing beautiful natural light to highlight the interior architecture

DESIGN CHALLENGE: The design challenge for this project was combining his modern style with her classical taste. To compliment the angular modern architecture, I used hard finishes in warm tones and classical shapes. Mixed metals, jewel-toned furniture and architectural paneling all work in harmony to accomplish a balance of both their styles.
